Gaston P2P and Digipeat Mini-Exercise

Washco ARES members have gone out on two weekends to test propagation from Gaston to other useful points. Check back for more information. The first photos is of N9PPand antenna the first weekend. The next three are from the second weekend.

N9PP: Location Gaston. Others that day headed towards Forest Grove, Banks and Hillsboro.

As KD7ISA headed from Gaston traveling North, direct voice propagation was acceptable to Forest Grove but ended well before Banks. Higher locations in the Hillsboro area had better reception. From W1ZPB: On a hill above the Banks water towers N9PP at Gaston (50W) came in loud and clear. N9PP heard me well at 5W. Other stations (lower elevation) were very scratchy. At Thatcher Park in Forest Grove transmission from N9PP was received mildly scratchy but readable. Transmissions to Gaston (5W from W1ZPB) were received scratchy.

K7RDB: Icom mobile IC-2820, DRA-80, antenna MFJ-1724B on a cookie sheet in attic, power levels 5w, 15w, 50w, VARA FM, latest release, wide, digipeat = K7RDB-11. Location Hillsboro.
KE7NKR: Digipeating with KE7NKR-11, location Bald Peak. Antenna tip up ~30 ft.

KE7NKR staffed the station K7RDB (Hillsboro) and KD7ISA (Gaston) digipeated through.

KD7ISA: Kenwood D710 GA, DRA-70, j-pole up 17 ft on 16 ft extension pole (4x4ft sections), speaker tripod, power levels 5w, 10w, 50w, VARA FM, latest release, wide, digipeat -= KD7ISA-11. Location Gaston.

10-06-2024: From this location, ham radio email traveled quite well direct through WC7EOC-10.  Just as well as digipeating through Bald Peak.

Ping results from Bald Peak (KD7ISA) to WC7EOC-10 at 50 watts RF last month.
