We had nine battery operated Winlink Express stations set up at Bald Peak Scenic Viewpoint. One of the stations generated all needed power with solar. Another station tested it’s Honda generator.
Operating in close proximity allowed a troubleshooter to make the rounds. Last time we were a few feet away in a workshop. This time we were further apart. Next time we will not be within walking distance.
We continued building our skills. After the initial station physical set-ups, we had a briefing (ICS201). Then we worked on having a net control station SLOWLY check everyone in – so we could all write down our target stations. Then we practiced going through net control (on Tac 1) to negotiate with another station (on Tac 2 or Tac 3) on message mode specifics (mode, frequency). For messages we used frequencies P2P-1, P2P-2 or P2P-3.
For troubleshooting we pinged Wc7EOC-10. Given the height of our site I believe we can reach it with 5 watts someone said. At 50 watts the S/N was over 30!
I’ll publish pertinent After Action Report (AAR) findings later so we can all learn.
