Start at Winlink.org. The front page is loaded with answers. They also have the authoritative reference called The Book of Knowledge as well as built-in help to the Winlink Express program.
To access comprehensive and FOCUSED training see Emcomm Training Organization’s (ETO) Winlink Thursday Winlink Net. There are ten exercises each year. These lead up to comprehensive “Drills” in May and November where you “exercise” what you have learned. Messages from Oregon (FEMA Region 10) go to the WLE address: ETO-10 and ETO-BK.
We will go through the past lessons to identify the exercises considered “Basic“. The exercises can be sent via Winlink to us at WCARES-ETO instead of the normal ETO addresses. You are also welcome to participate “on-time” with their program. We should have you jump somewhat ahead and learn how to generate an ICS-309 report to facilitate the process. This creates a list of your messages. We will need this for SETs also.
To practice simple checking in, send a Winlink Express (WLE) message to YCARE-NCS. Yes, this is not a ham call sign. This is a “tactical” WLE email address that will go through the system as
yc********@wi*****.org
. This is based in Yamhill County, OR. Check ins should be sometime between the Sunday am call through midnight Friday each week.
Ham who live or work in Washington County are invited to WLE check in with WCARE-NCS@winlink.org.
If you are not quite ready for the above see:
a. WaveTalkers on YouTube.com. They also host ham license training for free.
